Walter Urbielewicz Obituary

Walter P. Urbielewicz, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at his home, with his loving wife by his side.

Born in Maspeth, New York, Walter was the son of the late John and Ursula Urbielewicz. Maspeth continued to be his home until he and his family moved to  Piscataway, New Jersey, where they remained for over 50 years.

Walter proudly graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and continued his education at Queens College, earning an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation, he proudly served his country as a member of the Air Force Reserves.

Walter began his telecommunications career with New York Telephone, followed by Northern Telecom.  He ended his long and accomplished career with AT&T in Piscataway, where he worked as a communications engineer and consultant.. He retired in 2015 after many years of service.

Walter was a founding member of the Piscataway Jaycees.  He then took his strong community involvement and connections to join the Piscataway Elks Lodge #2414, where, through his hard work and dedication, he was elected as the Exalted Ruler.  He was very proud of  his Polish heritage and became an active member of P.A.C.E. (Polish American Cultural Endeavors).  He spearheaded memorable annual golf outings, which supported numerous Polish philanthropies.   Walter valued the friendships and community connections he developed through these organizations. Walter did not know a stranger. In his spare time, he enjoyed going to garage sales, flea marketing, and watching old war movies.   He valued the time he spent with friends and family in the porch listening to the Doors with his glass of Johnny Walker Blue in hand.

In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his siblings, John, Jane, and Leona.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of over 61 years, Diane Urbielewicz; his daughters, Ursula Jacob and Mary Beth Dowler (Rich); and those that called him Dziadzi, Emily Jacob, Chris Jacob and his wife, Chelsea, and Mackenzie Dowler.
