Martinsville- Volney Robert “Bob” Canfield, 88, died peacefully on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Eastern Star Home in Bridgewater. Son of the late Volney and Lucille Canfield, Bob was born in Mt. Vernon, NY and lived in North Plainfield before moving to Martinsville in 1965.  He was a 1955 graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He then served as an officer with the rank of First Lieutenant, in the US Army from 1955-1957. Bob then began a long career with GAF, Inc in Wayne, NJ as a research chemist. After his retirement in 1998, he stayed with the company as a consultant for several years. Bob was predeceased by his daughter, Marjorie Canfield who died in 1997; sister, Betty Micola; and beloved wife, Marjorie Canfield who died in 2015. Bob leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving children, Robert Canfield and wife, Kim, Daniel Canfield, Richard Canfield and wife, Donna, Carolyn Nasson and husband, Dean, Patricia Conway and husband, Perry; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; niece, Kathleen Malatesta and husband, Alan; nephew, Ed Micola and wife, Megan; and beloved dog, “Howard”. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday, November 22, 2021, at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said 9AM on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 AM funeral mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Bound Brook followed by burial at Neshanic Cemetery in Hillsborough.
