Todd “TJ” Aubrey James, 62, of Somerset, NJ, FL passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025. TJ was welcomed to the world November 6, 1962, to Edward James and Babette (DeYoung) Brown in Washington DC.
TJ grew up in Arlington, VA which he still called “home.” After attending Grove School in CT and University of Delaware, his diverse career included construction, shoes, home improvement sales, and real estate. Wherever he lived, he gave back to his community through volunteering and connecting with people who needed help. TJ’s hobbies were cooking and entertaining, fishing, traveling, eating in new places and exploring roads he never traveled. His love of sports includes the Washington Redskins (aka seafood Sundays), Wizards, Capitals and University of Maryland football and basketball. TJ and his wife Amy of 21 years loved to travel, taking many cruises and trips to explore new countries often with friends or family. TJ loved playing cards or backgammon and was an avid reader. He also loved watching General Hospital. TJ’s love of sports and fishing resulted in a small period in the summer called “Amy Season” where he and his wife had many adventures, including time in the Outer Banks and Rhode Island. Above all TJ loved to spend time with people. He brought people together. He loved meeting new people who quickly became true friends. If he met a stranger and programmed them into his phone you were now a friend – not an acquaintance or business connection, a friend. His friends were family to him. His friendships span decades as his loyalty and love were deep. He loved reminiscing with friends while eating blue crabs and watching sports.
TJ is preceded in passing by his parents, grandparents and cousin Jeffrey Forman.
TJ leaves behind his loving wife, Amy (Hennessey) James; sister Stephanie Atkins; brother Jonathan James; aunt Bette Forma; cousins Stephen Costner, Ginger Farmer, Jeff Costner, Brian Forman; nephew Christopher James and his wife Renee; great niece and nephew Charlotte and Jackson; mother-in-law Sylvia Hennessey; step-mother Karen James; step-brother, James Shaun Lee and so many friends. He also leaves fur babies Maxie and Gus.
