Teresa Velger, 88 yrs old (16 days shy of her 89th birthday), passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at RWJ University Hospital in Somerville, with her loving family at her side. Teresa was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to the late Carlos and Clara Otero. She was raised in the Bronx where she resided most of her life before moving to Bridgewater, New Jersey 12 years ago. She began her career as a telephone operator with AT&T in Manhattan before becoming a proud homemaker and raising her family in the Bronx. Her love for music - was demonstrated by her constant singing (especially in the shower) and prancing around the house while cleaning and showing off her Latin dances and Lindy at weddings and parties. But her bigger love came from her Puerto Rican culture and that was her Spanish food (pasteles, rice and beans, sancocho, and mofongo).
Teresa is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Martin Velger, her children, Lynn Farrell (husband Michael Farrell), and Glenn Velger (wife Yvette Velger), and her grandchildren, Natalie Wood (husband Ryan Wood), Sophia Maggio, and Austin Velger. In addition, she leaves behind her sisters Miriam Luniewski (husband Tommy) and Carmen Sanchez, as well as her brother Willie Otero (wife Cookie).
Visitation will be held from 4-8PM on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Funeral services will be held at 10AM, on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, followed by entombment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt Airy Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 at around 11AM.
