Susan E. Van Horn - Centanni

Califon – Susan Elizabeth Van Horn – Centanni, 83, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022 at Eastern Star Nursing Home in Bridgewater. Susan was born on May 8, 1939 in Cambridge, MA to the late James Robertson and Edith Palmer Van Horn. During most of her life, Susan resided in Somerset County before moving to Califon, NJ to be with her husband in 1988.  She was an insurance underwriter for Home Life Insurance Company in Piscataway, NJ for many years.

Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed playing tennis and working out to keep herself fit. She was very proud of her Van Horn family’s military history. She deeply enjoyed donating her knitting and crocheting projects to family, friends, and those in need.  Susan passed on her talents to her granddaughter Kathryn by teaching her to knit. This allowed Kathryn to teach others which led to her achieving her Girl Scout Gold Award. Susan volunteered at Hunterdon Medical Center for many years after retiring. She enjoyed spending time with her family as well as her dear friends. Susan loved meeting new people as well as being a snowbird in Arizona where she engaged in admiring any and all of nature. Her laughter, love and zest for life will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her sister, Janet Marie Brown and her husband, Gary of Concord, NH.

Susan leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of over 34 years, Guy James Centanni; her children, Kathryn Edith Hefele and her spouse, Richard, James Robertson Van Arsdale and his spouse, Constance, Debra Stone Guedes and her spouse, John, Tammi Millar and her spouse, Michael, Traci Singer and her spouse, Bruce and Lori Kilfeather and her spouse, Michael. Susan was blessed with ten grandchildren: Clark, Kent, Kathryn, James, Jacob, Patrick, Kristin, Amanda, Kate, and Maggie, as well as two great grandchildren, Cooper, and Bodhi.

Memorial services will be held at 11AM, on Dec. 30, 2022, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 158 West High St., Somerville, NJ. Arrangements entrusted to Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ 08807.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Susan’s name to The American Diabetes Association.
