Sonya S. Karney

Sonya S. Karney, 100, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at CareOne in Bridgewater, NJ. Born in Bayonne, NJ, Sonya spent many cherished years in Bound Brook, where she raised her family, and later made her home in Manville.

A devoted homemaker, Sonya was known for her generous spirit and her unwavering willingness to help family and friends whenever they needed her. Later in life, she worked for Johnson & Johnson in Raritan, NJ, where she proudly dedicated 20 years before retiring. Sonya’s warmth, strength, and kindness will be forever remembered by those who loved her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Chester Karney, who passed in 1996, and her son, Mark Karney, who also passed in 1996.

Sonya leaves behind her loving son, Richard “Ricky” Karney, and daughter-in-law, Carol Karney; her sister, Ann Nolan; her grandchildren, Lori Ann Karney and Michael Karney; and her great-grandchildren, James and Luke, all of whom will forever cherish her memory.

Memorial visitation will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ. A funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook, NJ. Burial of ashes will take place afterward at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
