Robert E. Kollmyer, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026. Born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the beloved son of the late George and Ann Kollmyer. In his early years, Robert was an accomplished Marksmen/Sharpshooter and proudly served in the United States Army before beginning a long and accomplished career in engineering. He retired from Honeywell as a Process Engineer and was the patent owner of a multi-axis magnetometer that is used in most cell phones today. Robert made his home in Bridgewater with his loving wife, Kathleen, where together they built a beautiful life and raised their family. A devoted husband and father, he proudly served as the first co-leader of his daughters’ Girl Scouts troops alongside his wife, and he was also a dedicated marching band parent and horse show dad. Robert was an avid New York Yankees fan, enjoyed bowling, and remained active in several senior clubs. He served as President of the Bound Brook Seniors for four years and especially treasured the group’s many trips, with Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Sight & Sound Theatre, and Atlantic City among his favorites.
Above all, Robert will be remembered for his love of family, his steady presence, and the warmth he brought to those around him. He will be missed deeply and remembered always by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kathleen Kollmyer, who passed away in 2010.
He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory always: his daughters, Laura Davidson and her husband, Christopher, and Tara Kollmyer and her longtime partner, Michael Tolomeo; and his grandsons, Ethan and Aaron Hopper.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Bridgewater Funeral Home. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to The Raptor Trust, 1390 White Bridge Road, Millington, NJ 07946.
