Robert Hendricks Obituary

Bridgewater, New Jersey – Robert Douglas Hendricks, 68, died on December 23rd, 2020 at home with his wife and son at his side following a 5-year battle with prostate cancer.  Son of Meredith and the late John Hendricks, Bob was born in Summit, NJ and lived in many locations throughout his life.  He lived the last 27 years with his wife in Bridgewater where they shared a passion for gardening.

Bob was an IT professional at Johnson & Johnson for 35 years and held numerous jobs prior.  He was an intellectual person and proud member of MENSA.  He enjoyed sharing scholarly articles and debating on a variety of scientific topics with like-minded friends.  One of his favorite pastimes was to hunt for shark teeth and fossils.  He also had a love of minerals from his father.

Known as Rob to his Mom and siblings and Bob to most other people, he was a generous soul.  He was always trying to give friends and family anything he thought they would enjoy.  He would take care of things for neighbors before they even knew they needed anything and kept an enormous candy jar at work filled with candies from all over the world to suit many nationalities.  He was the instigator for arranging lunches for the Old Guys Club of retirees and those soon-to-be.  He assembled and distributed school and safety packs for at-risk teens and underprivileged children, and arranged outings for children in care situations.

Bob was an avid fisherman.  He delighted in his lakeside camp in Maine and teaching others to boat and fish.  He looked forward to his annual trips to Florida and all the good friends there.  Along his travels both local and abroad, his preference was always to search for the essence of the place found off the beaten path instead of the flashy tourist spots.  He was an enthusiastic, animated, and gifted storyteller, offering his detailed and frequently-humorous spin to many an audience.  He loved his dogs like a true “dog dad” and adored his son and granddaughter above all.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia, son, Eric and partner Stephanie and son, Nikola, granddaughter Paige, step-son Chris, mother Meredith, siblings, Elaine and husband Frank, Donald and wife Susanna, James and wife Andrea, sisters-in-law Ellen and Kathleen and brother-in-law, Phillip, many nieces and nephews and two grand-nieces.  He is predeceased by his father, John, and brother, David.

Cremation will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Beebe Humane Society in Beebe, AR (http://www.beebehumanesociety.org/) in Bob’s honor.   Arrangements are being made through Bridgewater Funeral Home.
