Richard "Sonny" Gill Obituary

Richard “Sonny” Gill passed away peacefully with family at his side on July 26, 2026.

Sonny was born in Phillipsburg, NJ in 1941 where he resided for his entire life.

As a youth, he enjoyed playing baseball, swimming in the Delaware River, watching wrestling, listening to music, and going to the Sweets Shop with his twin sister, Evelyn, better known as Sis.

As he graduated from high school and took a job with Kuhl Poultry (he stayed 45 years) in Flemington, NJ., Sonny met a Bethlehem girl named Eileen, and they married, built a house in Pohatcong Township and had two sons: Rick and Jeff.

Later in life, Sonny met his beloved Renate and they had many happy years together before her passing.

Sonny’s lifelong love of music was centered in his love of all things Elvis Presley.  If you ever were on a bus to Atlantic City with an Elvis impersonator, you may have crossed paths. :-)

Towards the end of his life, Sonny resided in the Laurel Circle skilled nursing facility in Bridgewater, NJ where he touched many people with his positive outlook and humor.  The manner in which he adapted to his circumstances and maintained his sunny (had to say it!) disposition was inspirational.

He is survived by his sons, Rick and wife Joy / Jeff and wife Elizabeth, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

For those interested, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in Sonny’s name.
