Richard P. Murray, Sr.
March 13, 1936 – July 16, 2023
Bridgewater- Richard P. Murray, Sr., 87, died peacefully at his residence at the Delaney of Bridgewater surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Richard was the youngest son of the late Andrew V. Murray and Wilhelmina C. (Herrmann) Murray.
Rich was born on March 13, 1936, in New York City and lived in Staten Island, NY before moving to Bridgewater in 1973. Rich was a graduate of McKee Vocational & Technical High School in Rosebank, Staten Island. He proudly served in the United States Navy as an Electricians Mate First Class during the Korean Conflict earning the rank of Honor Man in his class. He had a lengthy career working in New York City for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local #3) as a telephone system installer, retiring in 2001. He was a member of the IBEW for more than 50 years and was well known for his relentless pursuit of perfection in his work.
Rich was dedicated to his family, making his children the center of his world; there was nothing he would not do for the family and did so expecting nothing in return. He was known not only for his quiet, observant manner and dry sense of humor that never failed to surprise and entertain, but also for his unique way of taking time to connect with others. He demonstrated a sincere interest in getting to know people as individuals and always had a pearl of wisdom or two to share. His legacy will live on in his children grandson, and his extended family.
Richard was a communicant of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Roman Catholic Church in Bridgewater. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Geraldine Murray in 2022; his mother and father, by his brothers, Joseph A. Murray, and Andrew R. Murray; and the family’s beloved dog "Mickey". He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved children, Richard P. Murray, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Hillsborough, Lisa Fitzgerald and husband, Darren of Upper Black Eddy, PA, his grandson, Nicholas, brother-in-law, Anthony J. Sica and his wife, Rene of Surprise, AZ along with more than 20 nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visiting hours are from 5-7 PM on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said 9AM on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the funeral home followed by a 10AM Mass at St. Bernard's Church in Bridgewater. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Bridgewater.
