Raffealina Squier Obituary

Raffealina “Rae” Squier, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, at the age of 100, surrounded by her loving family.

Rae was born on February 4, 1925, in Waverly, PA, to Francesco Illuzzi and Rose Illuzzi DiPietrantonio. She attended Dalton High School, where she played basketball and met the love of her life, Lyndon Squier. They married in 1944, and later settled in Bound Brook, NJ, where they raised their two daughters, Linda and Lisa.

After moving to NJ, Rae had a successful professional career at American Cyanamid and later RCA, where she proudly worked for 25 years. During her time at RCA she was part of a quality control team that made components for the Apollo 11 mission to the moon and worked on the first commercial computer. In retirement, Rae continued her pursuit for professional fulfillment by beginning a second career in real estate with AJ Realty. She always approached her work with a strong sense of pride and dedication.

Rae and her beloved husband enjoyed a full and vibrant life together, spending much of their time socializing, hosting gatherings, and dancing. Throughout their marriage, they were active members of the Bound Brook Elks and the Bound Brook United Methodist Church. They cherished weekend getaways and summer vacations at their cottage on Lake Carey, PA, where they were often surrounded by extended family and friends.

In retirement, Rae and Lyndon spent many happy years as snowbirds in West Palm Beach, FL, where they formed lasting friendships. While able, Rae volunteered at the church thrift shop, where she loved connecting with parishioners and chatting with customers. She was also a member of the Women’s Literary Club of Bound Brook, committing her time to lifelong learning, community service, and charitable work.

Rae’s positive outlook on life, generous spirit, and unwavering love for family and friends will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her throughout her long life. She was born into a world where television had only just been invented, went on to work on one of the earliest commercial computers, and lived long enough to FaceTime her great-grandchildren on an iPad she could hold in the palm of her hand. Rae’s ability to keep up with the ever-changing world around her with interest and aptitude is a testament to her resilience and strength.

Rae is survived by her devoted children, Linda Ryan-James (Ira James) and Lisa Slater, grandchildren Dana Slater (David Gross), Allison Whalen (Mark), and Mariel Slater (Blake Berger) and her seven great-grandchildren, Sophia, Benjamin, Natalie, Everett, Reid, Nora and Lydia. She is also survived by her sister, Rosemarie Laster, and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyndon, parents, 8 brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, Kirklyn Slater.
