Michael J. Montone, 82, of Bridgewater, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Bound Brook to the late Joseph and Dana Montone, Mike was a lifelong resident of Bridgewater. He graduated from Somerville High School in 1961 and went on to build a life rooted in family, community, and hard work.
Mike was the proud owner of Midtown Deli in Manville, which he operated with his beloved wife, Mary Ann, for 28 years until their retirement in 2008. His passion for connecting with others continued as he later worked as a driver for ADESA New Jersey in Manville, a position he held until recently.
A man known for his warmth and generosity, Mike was everyone’s friend. He was deeply committed to his community and served with honor as a firefighter and former chief of the Finderne Fire Department.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann Montone, in 2011. Mike is survived by his loving children: Michael J. Montone, Jr. of New York City; Kevin P. Montone and his wife Kristina of Orefield, PA; and Christine J. Bulger and her husband Steven of Manlius, NY. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Julia, Jordan, Evelyn, Jillian, Dana, Giada, and Max; his siblings: Vincent Montone and his wife Patricia of Hillsborough, and Rosemarie Kroener of Pennsylvania; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 2–4 PM and 7–9 PM at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Funeral services will take place at 10 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025, also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mike’s memory to Finderne Fire Department.
