Michael Assante

Michael Assante, 85, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May, 25, 2025. Son of the late Michael and Rita Assante. Mike was born, raised and lived in Martinsville, New Jersey. Mike graduated from Bound Brook High School in1958 before joining the US Navy. After his service in the military, Mike returned to Martinsville to work with his father and brother at Assante Brothers/Plainfield Well Drilling Company, eventually owning the company with his brother until his retirement in 2008. Mike was well known and respected in the Water Well Industry and served the groundwater industry for more than 50 years. He held leadership roles in the New Jersey Ground Water Association and the Northeast and Mid Atlantic Board of Directors. Mike was a loving husband and dedicated father and grandfather. He loved to tell stories of his life growing up and his time in the Navy. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, boater and skier. Being a well driller was the biggest part of his life. He worked jobs in his head until the end.

Mike was predeceased by his wife MaryAnn Prokopczyk (Assante) who passed away in 2009.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughter Cathy Assante-Sobel and husband Bob Sobel. Son Joe Assante and his wife Debbie (Vurckio) Assante; grandchildren Cody Sobel, Casey Sobel, Kieran Assante, Keaton Assante, Brian Remeta and Michael Remeta and 4 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, June 1, 2025 from 2PM to 5PM, at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main St., Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said at 10AM, Monday, June 2, 2025 at the funeral home. Following, burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Should friends and family desire, contributions in Mike's honor may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
