Maxine P. VanArsdale, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Maxine was the daughter of the late Park and Melvina Groff. She grew up in Hawthorne, New Jersey, and graduated from Hawthorne High School in 1955. She went on to attend Douglass College and later earned her Master of Science in Non-Profit Management from The New School for Social Research in New York City.
Maxine dedicated her professional life to service and the arts. She served as the Executive Director of Waterloo Village, the New Jersey Designer Craftsmen, and the Women’s Research Center. In later years, she worked alongside her husband, Norman “Skip” VanArsdale, helping with the operations of the Speer-VanArsdale Funeral Home in Somerville, NJ, until their retirement in 2001. She was also a proud member of the Raritan Valley Country Club for many years. Following retirement, Maxine and Skip relocated to Vero Beach, Florida, where they enjoyed a peaceful and active life together.
Maxine is survived by her beloved husband, Norman “Skip” VanArsdale; her children, Cynthia VonGlahn, Lawrence Lusardi, Nancy Paley-Rockwell, and Lisa Lusardi; her sister, Estelle Groff; nephew, James Hettle; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
