Matthew DeCastro Obituary

Mathew R. DeCastro passed away on April 27, 2020.  Born on October 27, 1944, Matt was predeceased by his parents, Liberato and Catherine DeCastro, and his brother, William DeCastro.  He is survived by his loving sister, Catherine (Trina) DuMont and her husband, Bill, loving niece, Annette Carbonaro and her husband, Tom, nephew, Damon DeCastro and his wife, Shelah along with their daughters, Lauren and Gabriella DeCastro. He is also survived by his mother’s sisters, Ann Schaub and Joan Peardon and their children.

Matt always had a gift for cooking that he cultivated at a young age working in the kitchen of Orlando’s Restaurant in Raritan, NJ which was owned by his grandparents, Anthony and Anna Orlando, also deceased.  He later worked as a chef at Ange and Min’s Bar and Restaurant in Kenilworth, NJ developing many relationships that he continued to maintain until his death.

Mathew had a magnetic personality that attracted family and friends alike.  In years past he held court at his “round table” on most weekend mornings welcoming all who came to coffee, pastries, and great conversation.  High school friends, the local mayor and, of course, lots of family would stop by to enjoy stories of the old days, the Yankees, and recent news.  We will all miss him very much but will always have those memories to warm our hearts.

A Funeral Mass will be held when conditions allow at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, Raritan, New Jersey. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
