Mary Irwin Obituary

Mary Irwin, 95, died peacefully at home in Bridgewater on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Daughter of the late Alexander and Agnes Ogilvie, Mary was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, then moved to Roselle where she graduated from Abraham Clark High School and started a family. In 1969 she moved to Bridgewater where she lived for the past 55 years. Mary was a bookkeeper for over 40 years working for various companies and her own bookkeeping business.

While living in Roselle, Mary was in a bowling league and won many trophies. She was also an active member of Daughters of Scotia. After moving to Bridgewater, Mary was a founding member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Bridgewater. She joined the Green Knoll Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary, later becoming a member of the Green Knoll Rescue Squad.  While starting as a first aider, Mary took classes to become an EMT in 1973.

Mary loved all forms of dance.  She took belly dancing and folk dancing lessons.  With Tom, she learned square dancing and joined the Garden State Square Dance Campers Association #001.  After their retirement, they crisscrossed the county in their motor home, dancing all the way.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, Thomas H. Irwin, Sr in 2016; son, Thomas H. Irwin, Jr. in 2017 and son-in-law John Jeffrey in 2020. She leaves behind her children, Bruce Irwin of Somerville, Alexis Jeffrey of Martinsville and Jeanne Irwin of Bridgewater; grandson, James Irwin and his wife Christine of Kingwood; great-granddaughter Andrea Rose; son Tom’s longtime partner, Jessica Mahon; 6 nieces and nephews and their families; her other daughter, Eileen Davall and other grandchildren Billy & Danielle Huntley; and many friends including her card playing ladies.
