Mary E. Canavan
(March 26, 1945 – January 13, 2025)
Mary E. Canavan of Middlesex, NJ, passed away peacefully at RWJ Hospital in Somerville on January 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving daughters. She was 79 years old.
Born on March 26, 1945, in Manhattan, NY, Mary was a long-time resident of Middlesex, a community she cherished deeply. A devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, she was active in her faith and community.
Mary's career began as a lunch aide for the local school system before she transitioned to Phillips Van Heusen Corp, where she worked as an accounts payable representative until her retirement.
A woman of many passions, Mary loved music and was known for her ability to sing along with nearly any song from the 1960s. She was also a devoted animal lover, and her two grand-dogs brought her much joy. However, it was as a mother that she shone brightest—her love for her daughters, Diane and Dawn, was immeasurable.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Jennie Hartmann. She is survived by her two daughters: Diane Canavan and her fiancé Brian Pollock of Middlesex, and Dawn Canavan and her fiancé Mark Mason of Glen Gardner. She also leaves behind her sister, Jane Tzivaeris of NY, her brother, Edward Hartmann and sister-in-law Kathleen Hartmann of FL, along with numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
In keeping with Mary's wishes, private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.
Mary’s family would like to thank all those who offered love and support during her life and in her final days. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
