Margaret "Peggy" Moran Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” Moran passed away peacefully at home, embraced by the love of her family and close friends, on January 24, 2026. During her long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease, Peggy maintained her tenderness, grace, and adoration for her loved ones, especially her three great-granddaughters. She was compassionate and nurturing, and was happiest while taking care of others by encouraging, supporting, providing, cooking and praying for them. Peggy was born and raised in Bronx, New York to Thomas and Ellen Barry, both Irish immigrants. She was one of four children, predeceased by older brothers James and William, and survived by her beloved sister Maureen. She attended St. Luke’s Grammar School and St. Pius Commercial High School. After graduation she worked as a secretary at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Advertising Age Magazine where she worked until she married in 1964 and began to raise her children. In 1977, Peggy and her family moved to Green Brook, New Jersey where she took pride in establishing a warm and loving home that was always welcoming to friends and family. Nobody ever left her home with an empty stomach. Ultimately, she returned to work, first at Irene E. Feldkirchner Elementary School in the school lunch program, then at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Piscataway, and finally at St. John the Evangelist Church in Dunellen, where she worked as Church Secretary for 17 years until her retirement. Peggy was a faithful and active parishioner for many years at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield where she was involved in several volunteer ministries including counting, fundraising, hospitality, and office work, and helped anywhere else she was needed. She enjoyed vacations with her loved ones, especially the many summer trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. She was a world-class babysitter to her grandchildren and grandpets, always indulging them with treats and cuddles. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her cherished girlfriends, most especially Barbara, Carol, Cecelia, Lena and Linda, by whom she was adored and supported. She will be remembered by her in-laws and nieces and nephews for her annual Christmas cookie-swaps and multiple family reunions that she hosted. Beyond anything, she cherished her role as grandmother to her 11 grandchildren and received tremendous joy in recent years from her 3 young great granddaughters. Peggy’s positive outlook on life, generous spirit, sage wisdom, warm smile, sausage pies, and unwavering love & loyalty will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her children Thomas and his wife, Annie; Christopher and his wife, Susan; Diane and her husband, Dan; Ellen and her husband, John; her grandchildren Matthew and his wife, Liz; Connor, Kyle, Jack and his wife, Lauren; Bill and his fiance, Juliana; Tim, Jillian, Grace, John, Ethan, and Emily; great-granddaughters Ruth, Louise, and Frances; adoring sister Maureen; former husband of 57 years, John “Rich”; sister-in-law Mary, many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends who were like family.Visiting hours will be held from 4-7PM on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E.
