Joy Allen Obituary

Joy Diane Allen

June 6th 1947 – May 9th 2024

"Life is not forever. Love is.”

Joy Diane Allen, 77, peacefully departed this world on May 9th 2024 at the Center for Hope in Scotch Plains. She was a person of complexity, deeply felt by those who knew her.

Born on June 6th 1947, Joy journeyed through life with a unique blend of strength, resilience, and grit.  She faced challenges that shaped her character in profound ways. Joy faced a life of her own terms, often challenging conventions and expectations. Because of her complexities, she possessed a rare depth of insight, a keen intellect, a flair for fashion, and a wicked sense of humor that left a lasting impression.

Joy enjoyed her work for many years as an executive assistant at the Temple Beth Torah in Ocean, New Jersey, and was known for her excellent writing skills and meticulous organization.

She loved many things in life including singing, going on cruises with her children (especially the casino!) and nature including butterflies, chipmunks, birds, and bunnies.

For most of Joy’s life, she was a brave trooper and survived many health issues including severe childhood scoliosis, several bouts of cancer, a heart attack, and even defiantly walked away from dialysis seven years ago against her doctor’s orders. Despite her many challenges with her health, she found solace in creating and collecting beautiful things – sewing intricate cosplay dresses (like Rose’s dress from the movie “Titanic”),  embroidery, baking tasty holiday treats, and antiquing.

Joy D. Allen is predeceased by her partner, George E. Fulling, and leaves behind her children, Ashley Allen (Karen) of Washington, Kelley Allen (Roy Davies) of Somerville; grandchildren, Nijl Allen (Kayla) of Washington, great-grandchild Elliot; brother Edward McCaine of Washington, and niece and nephews Jill Maffe, Steven Maffe, Craig Siedelhofer and Brian Siedelhofer.

A private funeral service will be held to celebrate Joy D. Allen’s life. Visiting hours will take place from 9am-9:30am on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Burial will follow 11am at the Hollywood Memorial Park & Cemetery in Union.    A Tribute Party for Joy will also be scheduled at a later date.

While we grapple with the complexities of Joy’s life and legacy, let us remember her with compassion and understanding. May she find the happiness and joy she sought in life, now and forevermore. Rest in peace, Dearest Mumsie. Your journey may have been difficult, but your spirit will be remembered.
