Joseph J. Ruggier, Jr.
Hobe Sound, FL – Joseph J. Ruggier, Jr. 82, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on July 27, 2021 in Hobe Sound, FL. Joseph was born in Bayonne to the late Joseph, Sr. and Louise Ruggier and was raised in Parsippany. Joseph served in the US Army, moving to Germany and throughout the United States with his Company, retiring after 12 years and residing in Georgia. He resided locally in Bridgewater for over 27 years before retiring to Florida in 2003. Joseph was employed for various companies throughout his career, including Acme as a Produce Manager, a construction Project Manager for Wick Builders, and a Maintenance Director at Raritan Extended Health Care Nursing Home. He especially enjoyed his work at Post Ace Hardware in Somerville. In retirement he enjoyed his job at Hobe Sound Ace Hardware where everyone who came in would ask for Joe, because they knew he would truly help them. In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed watching WWE wrestling, football, and was a NASCAR fan. Joseph was also an avid coin and stamp collector. He was especially talented in woodwork, making doll houses for his granddaughter, wagons for his grandson and great grandson, lighthouses, bird houses for all his family. His home was also evidence of his love of woodworking. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. A big guy with a big heart, he would do anything for you and he had a heart of gold.
Joseph is predeceased by his son, Brian Cunningham who passed in 2013 and brother, William Ruggier.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of over 43 years, Audrey Ruggier, daughters, Amy Gallo and her husband, Vincent, and Dawn Schroeck and husband, Ray, five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren and brother, Francis Ruggier.
Visitation will be held from 2-4PM & 7-9PM on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said at 9AM, Friday, August 6, 2021 at the funeral home followed by a 10AM funeral mass at St. Bernard Church in Bridgewater. Entombment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park.
