Joseph M. DiMartino

Somerset, NJ: Joseph M. DiMartino, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025 in his home at the age of 97.

Joe was the son of Michele (Michael) DiMartino and Antoinette Monaco, who immigrated to the United States from a small town outside of Naples, Italy. He was born on May 30, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York and was the oldest of 13 children.

Joe was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War serving in Augsburg, Germany. Joe held a degree in Chemistry from Brooklyn College and for most of his career, more than 25 years, he was a Production Planning Manager for Bristol Myers Squibb U.S. and Puerto Rico sites, working at both the Brooklyn, NY and New Brunswick, NJ locations.

Joe and his beloved wife of 64 years, Marie (deceased 2018), moved from Brooklyn, NY to Bridgewater, NJ in 1971. They were co-owners of The Hobby Shop in Matawan, NJ.  In 2005, Joe and Marie moved to the Somerset Run  community in Somerset, New Jersey. Up until his passing, Joe was the Building Representative, acting as a liaison between the building’s residents, the Homeowners’ Association and Property Management.

Joe was a loving patriarch to his family and a mentor to all who sought his advice. He tackled everything with determination and a can-do attitude. Joe also enjoyed vacationing with his family, especially the many trips to Disney World with his and Marie’s granddaughters as well as visiting San Francisco and spending time with family and friends in their summer home in the Catskill Mountains of NY.

Joe is survived by this loving family: his daughter, Donna DiMartino, and son-in-law, Louis Thomas, of Whitehouse Station, NJ and his daughter, Denise Perniciaro, and son-in-law, William Perniciaro, of Edison, NJ. He is also survived by his granddaughters, Lauren and Caitlen Perniciaro, and Ana Thomas. Joe leaves behind a large extended family of siblings, nieces and nephews and many dear friends and neighbors. He will be sadly missed.

Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said at 9 am, Friday, July 11, 2025 at the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Church in South Bound Brook, NJ. Entombment will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway, NJ.
