John Gary Voorhees, Sr., 81, of Middlesex, NJ, died peacefully during hospice care surrounded by his family at his home on February 21, 2024.
Born on May 3, 1942, and raised in Bound Brook, NJ, John (Gary) graduated from Bound Brook High School. Throughout his life Gary had many accomplishments: he attended Los Angeles Valley College, US Army Green Beret, Chief Lineman and Training Instructor for PSE&G, a Life Member of the Bound Brook Rescue Squad, an elected member of the Middlesex School District Board of Education, a 53-year Honorary Life Member of the John W. Lupu Memorial Post 306, member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and a member of Our Lady of Mount Virgin Catholic Church.
Gary is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Judith Agnes Voorhees. He is survived by his brother, Lee (wife Susan) of Long Valley, NJ; his son John, Jr. (wife Alicia Boyce) of Alexandria, VA; his son Michael (wife Kristine) of Annandale, NJ; his daughter Susan (husband Peter Cornet) of Bridgewater, NJ; and his daughter Lisa (husband Vincent Nordhaus) of Middlesex, NJ. Gary is also survived by his 12 beloved grandchildren, Kathryn, Abigail, Madeline, Rebecca, Sarah, Samantha, Sophia, Vincent, Ryan, Gabriella, Lillian, and Virginia; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Gary will be remembered as a friend to everyone who crossed his path. He could always give sound advice with a witty sense of humor. The world was a better place with Gary in it and he will be forever missed by all, especially his family.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 25 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ 08807. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 26 at 10:30AM at Our Lady of Mt. Virgin Catholic Church, 600 Harris Ave., Middlesex, NJ 08846. Entombment will follow at Holy Redeemer Mausoleum 1734 Clinton Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
