John J. Sweeney
Middlesex- John J. Sweeney, 87, died peacefully Saturday, June 5, 2021 at home under the care of Haven Hospice. Son of the late John J. Sweeney, Sr. and Mary (Mykulin) Sweeney, John was born in Bronx, NY and lived in Yonkers and Yorktown Heights, NY. He was a proud graduate of Rutgers University where he received a degree in Economics. After graduating, John was commissioned into the US Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and was honorably discharged after 10 years of service at the rank of Captain. John then went on to work as a pilot for Eastern Airlines, retiring after 22 years as a Captain. John was active in his community serving as Councilman, member of the Green Brook Flood Control Commission and a Life Member of the Middlesex Boro Rescue Squad. After the airlines, John went on to work as the recycling coordinator for the Middlesex County Improvement Authority. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Patricia T. Sweeney who died in 2015. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved children, John S. Sweeney and wife, Patricia, Francis Sweeney, Karen May and husband, Christopher; 7 grandchildren, Erin, Kristen, Madeline, Caitlin, Jack, Melanie and Matthew; great-granddaughter, Ava; and sister, Virginia Berns. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, June, 9, 2021 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said 10AM on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at the funeral home followed by entombment at St. Bernard's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to JFK Haven Hospice or Middlesex Boro Rescue Squad.
