Jeanne Marmar Obituary

Jeanne Lucille Marmar

Nee Gabaree

Jeanne is the cherished mother of 3, grandmother of 9, and great-grandmother of 19, plus another baby on the way. Her life-long journey of 97-years came to a peaceful end with her daughter Jenine beside her, at Brandywine Living at Middlebrook Crossing in Bridgewater, NJ. Jeanne was born in Torrington CT, the 2nd daughter of Erwin and Lucy Gabaree. She is pre-deceased by her sister, Margaret (Peg) Toohey.

Jeanne graduated October 1947 from Bellevue School of Nursing with a degree as a Registered Nurse. It was one month later that she and George, who was finishing his degree in Electrical Engineering at City College, eloped and were married at City Hall in Manhattan. Jeanne followed a varied career path. Beginning as a nurse, then as a stay-at-home mom, returning to work as a bookkeeper for many years, interspersed with several years as a technical typist. It was 1974 that The Vernon Bootery opened its doors; a joint venture formed by the Marmar-McCabe partnership. Jeanne’s tenacious bookkeeping skills were an asset to the business.

Jeanne had a strong sense of independence which will be fondly remembered by family and friends. She was an adventurous sort, always eager for the next trip, things to do and places to see. She was proud of her family and especially enjoyed sharing pictures and hearing all about the latest happenings. She will be missed by all her knew her.
