Jean A. Hockenbury

Jean A. Hockenbury, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Foothill Acres Rehabilitation Center in Hillsborough, New Jersey.

Born and raised in Westfield, Jean was the daughter of the late Walter and Gertrude Frickman. She later settled in Somerville, where she devoted many years to raising her family, before moving to Bridgewater in 1995.

Jean attended the Paine Medical School in New York City, earning her certification as a medical assistant. Although she worked briefly in the medical field with a dermatologist, her true calling was as a devoted homemaker.

A woman of many interests and talents, Jean was an avid reader, a lover of crossword puzzles, and an enthusiastic bridge player. She especially cherished time spent at her family's home in Lavallette, New Jersey. She also loved to travel with their longtime friends. Jean was a gifted oil painter, and her artwork was displayed and sold in local banks throughout the Somerville area.

Jean is survived by her beloved husband of 74 years, John Carl Hockenbury Jr.; her children, John Hockenbury and his wife, Alice, Jill Nebiker, and Jeff Hockenbury and his wife, Jill; and her cherished granddaughter, Jaclyn Hockenbury-Cianfaro and her husband, Nick.
