James Paul Northup

Bangor, ME – James Paul Northup, died on January 4, 2026 at age 87. He was born November 17, 1938 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Harold Northup and Leola Brown.

Jim learned the upholstery trade in high school and worked briefly at it. Most of his remaining working years were as a machinist. In his late seventies he became a gifted artist, painting landscape and seascape. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He is predeceased by his sons, Mark, Keith, and Brian Northup, granddaughter, Gabriel, and siblings, John, Ken, Bill, Pat, and Joe.

Jim is survived by his wife, Molly Northup, a daughter, Ilene Matthews, four sons, Frank(Diane), Craig (Denise), Dennis (Tammy) and Eric (Ralf) and sisters, Laura Rosato  (James), Jean Simpson (Bernard), Lois Sette (Joe), Kathy and Linda and 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-8PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater NJ 08807. Funeral services will be held at 10AM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the funeral home followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, NJ.
