Henry G. Wachtmann, Jr.
Bridgewater – Henry G. Wachtmann, Jr., 93, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at RWJ of Somerset with his family by his side. Henry was born and raised in Pequannock, NJ and is formerly of Madison, NJ and New Brunswick, NJ before calling Bridgewater home since 1963. While serving in the US Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller, Henry was stationed with his wife, Mary, in England at Lakenheath Air Force Base during the Korean War. Upon their return to the States, Henry completed his degree at Rutgers University and enjoyed his long career as a systems analyst with Johnson and Johnson until his retirement in 1995. He was a lifelong member of North Branch Reformed Church in Bridgewater, NJ. In his spare time, Henry always enjoyed supporting all his children’s interests, spending time with family was so important to him, flying (private pilot), fishing with friends and family on their boat the HECK 1, maintaining his vegetable garden, photography, skiing, taking care of the backyard birds, and reading. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Henry is predeceased by his loving wife of 61 wonderful years, Mary Wachtmann, who passed in 2014 and his sisters, Emily Kerpel, and Helen Lewis.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sister Joan Knapp, and his children, Dr. Henry G. “Chip” Wachtmann III, Dr. Thomas B. Wachtmann and his wife, Beverly, and Dr. Beth E. Wachtmann, Grand dog Gemma, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be held from 10AM-11AM, Friday, June 23, 2023 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 followed by a funeral service at 11AM. Burial will be held at First Reformed Church of Pompton Plains Cemetery, 529 Newark Pompton Turnpike, Pompton Plains, NJ 07444.
