Harriet Guild Osinski, 98
Bridgewater, New Jersey - Harriet Guild Osinski, 98, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 16. She was born in Walton, New York to the late Ray and Mary Guild (née North) on May 20, 1926.
After graduating from Walton High School, Harriet became a registered nurse from Bellevue School of Nursing in New York City in 1946. She worked at Matheny School and Somerset Hospital. Harriet furthered her education by earning a bachelor's degree from Trenton State and became the first school nurse at Bridgewater-Raritan East High School, serving from 1967 until her retirement in 1986.
The Somerset Valley Players were a significant part of Harriet’s life. She enjoyed her time on stage and behind the scenes, and served as president when they purchased their current playhouse. Harriet was also the first female reader at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Somerville, where she served on the vestry, sang in the choir for many years, and was a member of the Mary Martha and Altar Guilds. Additionally, she was a member of the Somerville History Club.
Harriet was a dedicated season-ticket holder for Rutgers football games and enjoyed tailgating with family and friends. She hosted many family gatherings, cooking everything from scratch, including her famous BTS brownies. Harriet enjoyed spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee, was an avid sewer, loved reading, and completing crypto quotes. In her later years, you could find her rooting for Jeff Gordon and Chase Elliott NASCAR on Sunday afternoons. She lived life to the fullest and was known for her strong-willed, headstrong nature, which endeared her to many.
Harriet was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth Osinski, her son Michael Osinski, and her sister Ann Guild Elwood.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary McMullen (Ralph) of Milton, New York, Karen Abbatiello (Dominick) of Bridgewater, and daughter-in-law Connie Osinski of Somerville. Harriet is also survived by her brother Michael B. Guild of San Dimas, California, six grandchildren: Jamie Case (Chris), Geoffrey Osinski (Jenn), Kayla Abbatiello, Megan Soucier (Gregory), Stephen Osinski (Nicole), and Ian McMullen, as well as three great-grandsons: Mickey, Connor, and Anthony.
Harriet will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, June 21, 2024 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. A funeral service will be held 10AM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Somerville.
