Gordon Grey Weighart
Somerset - Gordon Grey Weighart, 91-years-old, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 at his home in Somerset surrounded by family and friends. Son of the late George and Irene Weighart, Gordon was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived most of his family life in Bridgewater, NJ and retired life in Somerset, NJ. After graduating from Teaneck High School in 1949, he served in the US Army during the Korean War, after which he earned his Bachelor's degree from Rutgers University utilizing the GI Bill. He spent over 30 years employed by Supermarkets General Corporation ending his career there as Director of Administrative Services. The following ten years he proudly owned and operated Protect-A-Credit, after which he retired. During retirement, he and his wife traveled the world, and divided their time between NJ and Naples, FL. He was an active member of the Jaycees in Elizabeth, Canal Walk Men’s Club and Veterans Club. Gordon will be remembered as a great teller of “Dad” jokes and stories. He was always willing to try new things. Above all, when Gordon is described by those closest to him, his kindness, gentleness, supportive nature and general sense of humor stand out the most. Through the years, Gordon was an avid tennis and golf player, hiker, runner, gin player and reader. Ever the family man, Gordon made his family his biggest priority. Memories of Clover Hill, Long Beach Island, Virgin Gorda, Isla de Mujeres, France, Canada, and roadtripping around the US will always be associated with his sense of adventure and close family ties. In later years, he loved watching his grandchildren play sports and perform, as he was one of their biggest fans! He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Jaclyn “Jackie” Weighart and his children Jennifer Weighartchin and son-in-law David Chin of Brooklyn, NY, Laura Marchese and son-in-law Joseph Marchese of Branchburg, NJ, Christopher Weighart of Somerset, NJ, and Katherine Weighart and partner Shane Zimmerman of Orange Beach, AL. He will be forever cherished and missed by his grandchildren Bassie Weighartchin, and Olivia, Mason and Lucas Marchese, sister-in laws, Edith and Diane Weighart, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 11am-2pm with a 2pm funeral service on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Gordon’s final resting place will be Somerset Hills Cemetery in Basking Ridge, NJ.
