Gloria J. Guerci

Gloria J. Guerci, age 97, of Bridgewater, NJ passed peacefully on July, 29 2026 at her home. She has been a resident of Bridgewater for 68 years.

Gloria was born in Queens, NY on September 1, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Anthony and Marie Gallo Mainella. She is predeceased by her first husband of 30 years, John R Guerci, second husband, James Pepe, siblings, Victoria, Catherine, Mae and Richard.

At the age of 5 she contracted polio and overcame the physical effects through intensive physical therapy during her childhood and then later in life suffered with post polio syndrome.

She married John Guerci and raised her family in Bridgewater, NJ. She was a meticulous homemaker, a devoted member of the Alter Rosary Society at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, and volunteered at Somerset Medical Center for over 30 years where she held many positions. She also volunteered at the Second Hand Rose Thrift shop and the Children’s Down Syndrome of Somerset County, ARC

Strong and fiercely independent she maintained her feisty personality, sense of humor, and strong constitution throughout her long life. According to Gloria, her daily glass of wine also contributed to her longevity.

Her home is filled with exquisite needlepoints which was her passion. She lived her life on her own terms with strength of character, love of opera music which was played very loudly on Sundays, a hearty laugh and love of family and friends.

Surviving are her daughter, Alice Huether and husband, James, her son, John Guerci and wife, Ann; five grandchildren, Christopher Huether and wife, Eleanor, Matthew Huether and wife, Mari, Peter Huether, Michael Guerci, and Katherine Guerci, and five great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 8:30AM-9:30AM on Monday, August 3, 2026 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ 08807. A 10AM funeral mass will follow at St. Bernard Church in Bridgewater. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery.
