George (Scotty) McMahon, 89 years old, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020. George was born in Glasgow Scotland and came to West Orange when he was six months old. He was the son of the late George and Catherine (Morren) McMahon of West Orange. He served as a Corporal in the army with I Corps Artillary in the Korean War as a cannoneer. George married the love of his life, Marie Daniello of Orange NJ in 1952 and settled in West Orange where they raised their children Gary and Gail. They just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in March. George worked as a master carpenter building homes in Mendham and Chester. He retired in 1995 from AT&T where he was the supervisor of buildings. George & Marie were founding members of St. Raphael’s Church in Livingston and were active there for over 35 years until they moved to Whippany before retiring at the Jersey Shore in 2016.
George leaves behind his wife Marie, daughter Gail (McMahon) Catania and Grandson Richard Catania, his sister Alice Ploransky of Brick, NJ, sister-in-law Anna Belle Theis McMahon of West Orange and many loving nieces, nephews and godchildren. He is predeceased by his son Gary, brother John and his wife Lois, his brother Patrick and his brother-in-law George Ploransky.
A celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s association.
