George Marish, Jr. Obituary

George D. Marish, Jr. (Geo), 76, of Bound Brook, NJ, entered eternal rest on February 10, 2021, after a courageous battle with lung cancer at his son’s home with his loving family at his side.
George was born September 18, 1944, in Somerville, NJ, to the late Stella (Halicki) and George Marish, Sr.  George grew up in Bound Brook, graduated from Bound Brook High School in 1962, and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps with the John Basilone honor platoon # 251.  He was stationed at Henderson Hall in Arlington VA with Motor Transport and had the honor of driving the Commandant of the Spanish Marine Corps in the funeral procession for President John F. Kennedy.  He was later stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC and finally Camp Pendleton, CA.  Following his time in the service, he moved back to NJ and settled in Bridgewater to raise his family with his former wife Peggy before finally settling in Bound Brook for the last 35 years.
George never truly retired.  He was employed as a laboratory technician for American Cyanamid in Bridgewater for almost 28 years as well as a part-time maintenance worker at the Bound Brook Apartments for 15 years.  He then worked for a short time at Blue Ridge Oil Company and most recently as the maintenance and groundskeeper for the past 17 years at St. Mary’s of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook where he was also a communicant.
George will be remembered for his happy-go-lucky demeanor and kindhearted nature, as he was always willing to lend a hand to a friend in need.  He enjoyed catching up with his friends at the Golden Corner Diner and looked forward to his nightly ice cream sundaes there where he was treated like family.  George loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed relaxing in the pool to work on his tan and took pleasure in spending time with his family, especially camping and fishing with them at Spruce Run and Panther Lake.  It was obvious that his greatest joy was his grandchildren and supporting their endeavors.  George was there to enthusiastically cheer them on; whether it was a wrestling match, cross-country, track, swim, gymnastics meet, or returning to Parris Island after 52 years to watch his grandson follow in his footsteps and earn the title of U.S. Marine.
Beside his parents, George was predeceased by his son Richard Lee Marish and his granddaughter Liana Lee.  He is survived by his daughter Angela Bowden and her husband Glenn of Manville, his son John Marish and his wife Stacie of South Plainfield, his grandchildren Matthew and Kate Bowden and Aubrey and Nicolle Marish, a sister Roberta Lake and her husband Bruce, a niece, nephew, grandniece, grandnephew and many dear friends.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, February 12, 2021 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said 8:30 AM on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the funeral home followed by a 9:30 AM Mass at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook.
