Frank Tambone, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 16, 2024 at the age of 91. He was born in Astoria, Queens, NY to the late Antonio and Giovanna (Jenni) Tambone. He loved playing street hockey and was a proud member of the PAL Astoria Red Wings; he served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer Third Class, Dental Technician on the USS Lake Champlain (CVA 39) from 1951 to 1955. Upon returning home to Astoria, he pursued his education at St John’s University, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Pharmacy. After a long courtship begun on Fire island, he wed Jeannie and relocated to New Jersey, where they bought a home in Middlesex, raised their three children, and lived for 54 years. He and Jeannie celebrated 58 years of marriage last year. He had a long and successful career in pharmaceutical manufacturing, working for Squibb, Hoechst-Roussell, Knoll, and Sandoz/Novartis. He retired from Sandoz and started his second life as a retiree. He worked as a pharmacist in the local pharmacy and then with Jeannie, traveling on numerous photo shoots throughout North America putting his tailoring skills (inherited from his father) to good use. His greatest pastime was spending time with his family. He was an avid skier, enjoying time in the Catskill Mountains of NY with his family. He began skiing in the French Alps while in the U.S. Navy and continued his entire life, only stopping in his late-70’s (he loved skiing at Belleayre Mountain and was very proud to join their ski for free in your 70’s club).
When not skiing or spending time with his family, he and Jeannie found themselves exploring cities across Europe and Mexico. They loved the culture, the food and a day of snorkeling followed by a nap under a palapa.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannie Tambone and their children, Lisa Museler and her husband, Will of Portsmouth, RI, Michael Tambone and his wife, Danielle Sheridan of Northport, NY, and Jennifer Zarrillo of Hoboken, NJ.
He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Vito (18), Matus (14), Will (14) and Madeline (11) who adore him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The viewing and funeral will be held at Saint Ann Roman Catholic Church, 704 Jefferson St, Hoboken, NJ on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 12:30pm with a reception to follow at Il Tavolo di Palmisano, 700 Clinton St, Hoboken, NJ.
