Fanny Escobar Obituary

Hillsborough- Fanny E. Escobar, 81, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024 at her home with her family by her side. Fanny was born in Barranquilla, Colombia to the late Miguel Escobar and Josefa Molinello. She immigrated to the United States in 1972 and resided in Bergen County before moving to Hillsborough, NJ in 2019. Fanny worked for various companies over the years, mostly recently Adesa in Manville, retiring in 2006. In her spare time, Fanny enjoyed hosting holidays, cooking, dancing, listening to her native music Vallenato, trying her luck at the casinos, gardening, spending time with family playing Loteria, and enjoying time with her loving grandchildren. If you knew Fanny, you know she had no filter whatsoever, if she called you out, you probably had a chance of earning a nickname which meant she acknowledged your existence. Just to name some of the nicknames there was “El flaco” when addressing her husband, Gerardo, “Cara e muela” when addressing Uncle Charlie Barrios, “El Calvo” when  addressing her son in law, Gilbert, “Cuquito” when  addressing her grandson, Kenny, “Cabezona” when addressing her daughter, Lilia and her niece Monica, “Cachetona” when addressing her sister, Cielo, “Canillona” when addressing her younger sister, Marta, “Cabeza pan viejo” when addressing her late twin sister, Norma, “Traga peo” when addressing her grandson’s friend, Luis etc. Fanny had her own English language as well and if you tried to correct her, she would tell you that is exactly what she was saying. “Shorai” for Shop Rite, “Feibu” for Facebook, “Berge kin” for Burger King. She spoke her own language and left you trying to figure out what she was saying, but don’t piss her off because her English language would be perfected immediately! In summary, if you knew Fanny, you know she was one of a kind and we will never forget her.

Fanny is predeceased by her daughter, Norma Christina Barrios.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of over 43_ years, Gerardo Marquez, children, Lilia Lorenzo and her husband, Gilbert Lorenzo, José Barrios and his wife, Diane Barrios , Jaime Barrios and his wife, Minerva Barrios , and Fabian Barrios and his wife Mary Beth Barrios, 14 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
