Eugenie Kowalenko Obituary

Eugenie P. Kowalenko

Lebanon- Eugenie P. Kowalenko, cofounder of the Bridgewater Funeral Home, died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 20, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was 94. Born in Hufingen, Germany, more recognizably known as the Black Forest section, Jean immigrated to the United States on August 20, 1947. When she arrived she lived in northern New Jersey before settling in Bridgewater, where she and her late husband, Ed, founded the Bridgewater Funeral Home.  Jean and her husband ran the funeral home until their retirement in 2001.  She was a faithful member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook. For many years she faithfully cleaned the church every Saturday. She was also a member of the St. Mary's Altar Rosary Society, the St. Mary's Leisure Club, Bridgewater and Clinton Senior Citizen Clubs, Finderne Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary, and the Finderne Fire Ladies Auxiliary. Jean was a hard worker and took pride in everything she did; whether it was housework, baking, cooking, or entertaining. She enjoyed going to her chalet in the Poconos, reading, and spending time with her family as well as the many pets she had over the years.  She was predeceased by her husband, Edward A. Kowalenko, in 2019.  She leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved son, Brent Kowalenko, and his wife, Holly, of Branchburg; her loving daughter, June Romero, and her husband, Gregory Sr., of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; her cherished grandchildren, Gregory Romero, Jr., of Madison, Lauren Baker of Franklin Park, NJ, and Dr. Kyle Romero and his wife, Erin, of Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at St. Mary's of Czestochowa Church in Bound Brook. Burial will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.  Visiting hours are private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice, the Clinton Rescue Squad, or a local animal shelter.
