Estelle Hendrickson Obituary

Estelle H. Hendrickson passed away at the age of 95 on December 27, 2024, at the Brightview Senior Living Assisted Living community in Warren, New Jersey. She was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Estelle was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Art Education. She retired from the Connecticut Public School System after 30 years of instilling elementary students with a love of art. Upon retiring, Estelle and her husband Gordon Hendrickson moved to the Landings on Skidaway Island in Savannah, Georgia. She became a Docent at both the Telfair Museum of art and at the Owens Thomas House in Savannah. Estelle also served as the President of the Telfair Academy Guild for two years. During her time living in Savannah, she became a licensed Savannah tour guide. Both the docent and tour guiding activities enabled her to continue to teach her second passion, which was American History. Estelle and Gordon travelled extensively around the world during their retirement visiting many locations in Europe, South America, and the Caribbean. In 2004, Estelle and Gordon moved to the Stone Mountain Retirement community located in Stone Mountain, Georgia where they resided until Gordon’s death in 2005. They had been happily married for 52 years. Estelle then found enjoyment working part time for over 15 years as a receptionist at the Stone Mountain State Park Confederate Hall Education Center. This employment enabled her to speak with people from all over the world who visited the Education Center where she informed them about the history of the famous Civil War memorial carving on the side of the Stone Mountain. She often established a rapport with the guests because she could speak to them about her travels to their home countries.

Estelle is survived by her daughter Karen Gabbett, her husband Cecil Gabbett, their three children Christopher Gabbett, Maryanne Gabbett and Kelly Gabbett and a great grandson, Connor Gabbett. A memorial service will be held on January 13th from 3-5 pm at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Norman Rockwell Museum located at 9 Glendale Road in Stockbridge, Massachusetts or to the Mighty Eighth Airborne Museum located at 175 Bourne Avenue in Pooler, GA.
