Eleanor E. Fakelmann, 93, passed away from pancreatic cancer on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Griffin Hospital in Derby, CT. Born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Eva Eisler. Eleanor was formerly a longtime resident of Clark, NJ, where she lived for over 47 years before moving to Canal Walk in Somerset, NJ. Since 2021, she made her home in Beacon Falls, CT, to be closer to her family.
Eleanor started her career at Singer Sewing Machine Co. in the billing department, where she met her husband, Joe. She was a devoted homemaker and also worked at the Union County Vocational and Technical Center and for the Elizabeth Board of Education as an administrative secretary. Above all else, Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her family.
She was a member of the Clark Art Association for many years and was quite an accomplished oil painter. She was a Rosarian at St. John The Apostle RC Church and a member of the Cranford VIA (Village Improvement Association). In her spare time, she was well known for her love of card games and Mahjong, often sharing laughter and friendly competition with those around her. She was a long time mahjong player with her childhood friends, as well as her friends in Canal Walk. She was a member of the Chatfield Farms neighborhood bookclub and really enjoyed the friendships and discussions. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A woman of faith, she never missed any of Father Hanks Sunday masses, even on her last day. She prayed along as it was live-streamed from her hospital bed.
Eleanor leaves behind to cherish her memory her beloved husband of almost 71 years (December 26th), Joseph Fakelmann; her children, Robert Fakelmann (Olga) and Susan Germaske (Bill); her grandchildren, Gregory (Abby) and Nicholas (Jacqui) Fakelmann, Michael (Kristen) Germaske, Lynn (Carter) Scarrozzo, and Christine (Andrew) D’Alessandro; and her great-grandchildren, Paisley, Noah, Chase, Kylie, Cora, Mia and Molly. She also leaves behind two dear friends, Dot & Marge as well as dear cousins: Lucy, Tony, Isabel, Joan, Ray, Mary K. and Matt. The family would also like to thank Rose who supported her with care and friendship over the past year and a half.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 E. Main St., Bridgewater, NJ. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at The Roman Catholic Church of St. Bernard Clairvaux (500 US 22, Bridgewater, NJ). Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Mausoleum in Colonia, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beacon Hose Co. No. 1, 35 North Main Street, Beacon Falls, CT in appreciation of their EMS support.
