Obituary

Dr. Mohanlal Lahiri, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected physician, peacefully passed away at his Somerset, New Jersey home on Friday, September 1, 2023. He was born in Orissa, India in 1934 to the late Nani Gopal and the late Jogmaya Lahiri. Dr. Lahiri's journey through life, marked a dedication to medicine and love and caring for family and friends.

He was raised in Varanasi and Kolkata, and in 1955, at the young age of 20, Mohan graduated from Calcutta Medical College, setting the stage for a lifelong commitment to caring for others. After gaining invaluable experience in India, he embarked on an international journey, relocating to Richmond, Virginia, in 1963. He diligently pursued his medical training there until 1968, when he further honed his expertise with several training positions in Staffordshire, England. He then pursued additional training in Edmonton, Canada, eventually settling with his young family in Cortland, New York.

For 15 years, Dr. Lahiri practiced pulmonary medicine in Cortland earning the respect and admiration of both patients and colleagues. In 1987, he relocated with his family to Somerset, New Jersey, and he established a thriving medical practice in Somerville. He proudly welcomed his son, Dev, into his practice in 2001, and they practiced together for seventeen years.  His dedication to the field was unwavering, as he continued to serve the community until his well-deserved retirement in 2018 at the age of 84. At the time of his retirement, he had practiced medicine for 62 years.

In their later years, Dr. Lahiri and his wife Sipra moved to The Canal Walk community, where they have been active in many groups. He served as President and founding member of the Indo-American club and took great pride in his leadership there.

Dr. Lahiri's commitment to healing extended far beyond the confines of his practice. He was renowned for his unwavering support, always making time to assist friends and family with their health concerns. His love for exploration led him to travel extensively, and he cherished moments spent with his family and friends.

Dr. Mohanlal Lahiri was predeceased by his father; mother; brother, Tarun Lahiri; and sisters, Jyotsna Bhaduri, Krishna Lahiri, and Manju Lahiri. He is survived by his loving wife, Sipra Lahiri; his sons, Devraj Lahiri and wife Mythili and Ronobir Lahiri and wife Apinya Pokachaiyapat; step-daughters, Malini Majumdar and husband Russell Lomuscio and Monica Liggio and husband Michael.
