Hasan Gucluyildiz, 81, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away peacefully Sunday evening, December 10, 2023 at CareOne in Bound Brook, NJ.
Hasan was born January 1, 1942 in Bursa Turkey. Hasan began his life-long love of travel in 1959 when he came to New York for three months to attend the New York Herald Tribune Youth Forum as the delegate representing Turkey. The delegates, who lived with host families and attended schools in different locations, were selected to represent the youth of their countries through a national competition organized by their Ministry of Education. The standard requirements were to write an essay – usually on the topic of “The World We Want”. Finalists were then invited to personal interviews, and the best of them was chosen.
In 1963, Hasan graduated from Istanbul University with a degree in Pharmacy and then served in the Turkish army. In June, 1966, following his military service, he entered the graduate school program at Purdue University where he completed his PhD in January, 1972. On August 1, 1972 he married Carol Lee from Bluffton, Indiana. They moved to New Jersey and Hasan began his career in pharmaceutical product development at Warner Lambert and ended his career at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, New York.
In 1990 Hasan took his first of many cruises and immensely enjoyed traveling the world, both on cruises and on land adventures. He particularly enjoyed relaxing in the water at a beach and he looked forward to annually returning to Turkey to visit resorts on the Mediterranean and Aegan and to visit with family. He was an excellent planner and put together many wonderful, memorable trips.
Hasan was very outgoing and enjoyed getting to know the people he met wherever he was.
Hasan is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carol Gucluyildiz of Basking Ridge, N.J., a sister, Sabahat Colkesen of Bursa, Turkey and a niece and 4 nephews that are also in Turkey.
