Dorothy Harman Simms

Dorothy Harman Simms, age 83, passed away on April 19, 2021 in Whiting, NJ.  Dot was born and raised in the Plainfield area, later moving to Long Hill Township after marrying Thaddeus Simms in 1960 and enjoyed her later years in Whiting in Crestwood Village IV.

She and Thaddeus opened Valley Memorial Funeral Home in 1971 and proudly served the Long Hill community for over 30 years.  Always enjoying the beauty of flowers, she was known for all of her seasonal plantings believing in the serenity that flowers bring and that blooming flowers provide hope.

Active in the community, Dot drove a school bus, volunteered on the Long Hill Township rescue squad (formerly the original Top Squad), served on the Board of Adjustment in Long Hill and also on the Board of Trustees for Crestwood.

Dot was known for her love of games from bocce to cards and many years playing women’s softball.  Dot also enjoyed going on cruises, Vegas-style shows and trips to Atlantic City.

Dot forged many deep friendships that have lasted decades and will be missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Petrozelli and her husband Daniel and daughter Leah.  She is also survived by her two sisters, Fran Santangelo and Patricia Lambertson.

Services will be held for Dorothy at 11 AM on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at The First Presbyterian Church of Stirling.  Please join us to celebrate her life and share in happy memories.
