Courtenay Emerson Obituary

Neshanic Station - Courtenay Lamb Emerson, 89, died at home on Friday, May 16, 2014, surrounded by her family.  Daughter of the late William Courtenay Lamb and Mary Holmes Lamb, Courtenay was born on December 11, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, and lived in Hackensack, New Jersey, for 65 years before moving to Neshanic Station in 1989.  She was employed as a Service Representative for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company before starting her family.  Courtenay was a member of the Second Reformed Church of Hackensack, NJ, and the Three Bridges Reformed Church of Three Bridges, NJ, where she served as an Elder as well as a member of the Fellowship Commission.  Courtenay was, above all devoted to her family, first and foremost a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.  She was affectionately known as Nana.  She especially enjoyed family vacations spent at Cape Cod and the Outer Banks.  Courtenay was a caring, loyal friend.  Her smile was magnetic, her heart was pure, and her faith was steadfast and unfaltering.  She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur Emerson, her parents, her sisters Isabel Amelander and Ruth Emerson, her granddaughter Katherine Gayeski, and grandson Michael Gayeski.  Courtenay is survived by her children, Ivarlee Mulligan and husband Thomas of Bridgewater, NJ; Courtenay Gayeski and husband Frank of Neshanic Station, NJ; Arthur Emerson and partner Melody Calvo of Glen Gardner, NJ; grandchildren Courtenay Higgins, Sean Mulligan, Ivor Mulligan, John Gayeski, Mary Volpe, William Gayeski, Christopher Gayeski, and Steven Emerson; 9 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807.  Departure for the funeral services in Hackensack will be 9:00 AM from the funeral home on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 followed by an 11:00 AM service at the Second Reformed Church, 435 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. Burial will follow at the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Second Reformed Church in Hackensack or Three Bridges Reformed Church, PO Box 235, 470 Main Street, Three Bridges, NJ  08887.
