Charles Kenneth Wardo, 90, resident of Middlesex for 58 years, passed away on Monday, February 20 at RWJUH- Somerset. He was born on December 18, 1932 in Perth Amboy, NJ to the late Charles Wardo and Jennie (née Anderson) Wardo.
Corporal Charles K. Wardo served during the Korean War in the US Army from early 1952 to late 1954 when he was honorably discharged. He was assigned to the Army Communication Command in California, where he was trained as a teletype operator. He was sent for NBC (Nuclear, Biological & Chemical) training in Northern Calif. before he was deployed to Germany where he was stationed. During his tour in Europe, his assigned unit provided field communications to ground and air units.
Charles was employed by Asarco, and later Federated Metals, Newark for over 30 years working in laboratories, as a Metallurgist / Metals Chemist.
He was a member of VFW post 5479 in Dunellen, and served as post Chaplain from approx. 1990 - 2015. Charlie was an old movie buff, enjoying old westerns and was a lifelong country music fan. He also played the guitar.
Charles was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bound Brook since the 1970s where he had many cherished friendships.
He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Rita (née Bradley) in 2006. He is survived by two daughters, Michelle Miller of Branchburg, NJ and Charlene Marcinek of the Jersey shore. He is also survived by four lovely grandchildren; Daniel, Kristen, Jeremy and Heather.
Visiting hours will be held from 4-7PM on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Funeral services will be held 10AM on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the funeral home followed by burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway.
