Somerville- Charles “Chuck” R. Ahlert, Jr., 83, died on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at CareOne in Bridgewater. Son of the late Charles R. and Theresa Ahlert, Chuck was born in Bronx, NY and lived most of his life in Somerville. Chuck served in the US Army during peacetime. He was a signal maintainer for Metro North Railroad for over 40 years retiring in 2001. After his retirement he spent 16 years on Long Beach Island near the Barnegat Lighthouse where he sold  beautiful flowers from his flower cart. In his teen years he enjoyed playing baseball and softball. He was an avid NY Yankees baseball fan; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing poker and spending time at the beach. He was predeceased by his 3 siblings, Donald, Patricia, and Joseph; his second wife, Irene Ahlert. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved children, Beth Bartels, Michael Ahlert (Luz), Peter Ahlert (Bonnie); grandchildren, Gleni, Luke, Kayla, Dylan, Dean, Hanna; and his first wife and mother of his children, Carol Ahlert. Visiting hours will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Prayers will be said 10AM at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, followed by burial at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Bridgewater.
