Carlo Melia Obituary

Carlo Melia

Carlo (“Junior”) Melia (81) of Somerset, NJ peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

Son of the late Delia (“Daisy”) and Carlo Melia, Sr. and son-in-law of the late Augusto and Emelia Gomes, Carlo grew up in Newark, NJ along with his sister Virginia and his late brother Philip. He is a proud graduate of Barringer High School. As a young man, you could find Carlo playing his Fender bass at a gig with the fabulous “Tremlos”. He spent his career as a Logistics Manager primarily for AEP Industries in Moonachie, NJ and GAF in Parsippany, NJ. Carlo took great pride in providing for his family and known to be more than just a coworker to those he worked with.

On June 2, 1962, Carlo married his true love, Concetta (“Connie”) Gomes whom he was happily married to for 59 blessed years. They originally resided in Newark then East Orange before moving in 1967 into their first home in Scotch Plains, NJ where they raised their four daughters. Once empty nesters, they moved in 2006 into the Canal Walk Adult Community in Somerset, NJ.

Carlo was an avid card player and spent much of his time organizing ‘Texas Hold Em’ tournaments in Canal Walk and planning his family vacations along the Jersey shore (Wildwood and Brigantine). He loved playing softball, golf, bocce, backgammon and pickle ball as well as tending to his vegetable garden. But his greatest pride and joy was his family whom he loved unconditionally and was lovingly known to all as “Poppy”. He made every effort to attend his grandchildren’s sporting events and major life milestones. One of their fondest memories was attending Philadelphia Phillies games together.

He is survived by his wife Connie, his four daughters, seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter:  Annemarie Melia of Westfield, NJ and her two children, Jessica and Daniel (his wife Alexis and their child, Scarlett); Tammy Pearce (Ron) of Bridgewater, NJ and their two children, Ryan and Eric; Dawn Bucher (Alan) of Clinton, NJ and their three children, Ashley, Courtney and Emily; and Carla Winebrenner (Rick) of Whitehouse, NJ.
