Beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Anna Maziarz, 91, passed away peacefully in her home in Manville, New Jersey on January 31, 2025.
Anna was born on July 26,1933 in the small town of Majdan Golczanski in Poland to Jozef and Weronika Pachla. She experienced great hardship growing up during the Second World War together with her two siblings and widowed mother after her father’s unexpected passing when she was three years old. Later, Anna married Julian Maziarz and together, they raised six children before his passing in 1979. Thereafter, Anna emigrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York. She worked as a cook at Ratners Restaurant, formerly on Delancey Street in New York City, where she perfected her recipe for her exceptional pierogi, for which she was known far and wide. She met and married Zdzislaw Kulesza in Brooklyn and eventually moved to Manville, New Jersey in the mid-90s where they resided together until Zdzislaw’s death in 2021.
All of Anna’s grandchildren and great grandchildren know that “Babcia Ania’s” pierogi are the best in the world and will fondly remember the dinners and family gatherings where they were featured, lovingly made by a woman who gave so much to her family. She will be remembered for her warm heart, ready smile, her wisdom, and her energy.
Predeceased by her parents and sister, Wladyslawa Kwasnik, Anna is survived by her brother, Bronislaw Fila, and her six children, Tadeusz Pachla (Krystyna), Zofia Grabowski (Tadeusz), Jozef Maziarz (Aleksandra), Eugeniusz Maziarz (Elzbieta), Jerzy Maziarz (Anna), and Janusz Maziarz (Jolanta). She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. A viewing will take place on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Church (Christ the Redeemer Parish) in Manville, NJ with internment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hillsborough, NJ.
