Alexander Schanschieff, Jr. Obituary

South Bound Brook, NJ

Alexander Nicholas Schanschieff, Jr. passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023 at the age of 89 at his home in South Bound Brook, surrounded by his loving family.  Alex was born and raised in Hempstead, NY to the late Alexander and Edith Schanschieff.  He was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia Ann Schanschieff who died in January 2022.

Alex served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4th Class from July 1956 to July 1958.  This is where he picked up his love for the trade of carpentry.  After he was discharged from the army, he became a professional carpenter where he worked for multiple small companies and had a great amount of passion for his work and his family always counted on the fact that he could build anything with his hands. He was so amazing at his job that he decided to start his own business and ran it for 40+ years until his retirement.

He met the love of his life, Patricia at a USO dance in Niagara Falls while serving in the army and after two months of dating they both knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together and decided to get married in 1957 and had been married for 64 years.

Alex and Patricia decided  to leave New York and head to New Jersey in 1958 to start their lives together in Plainfield, NJ where they got their first apartment as husband and wife.  During their time in New Jersey, they decided to expand their family by having 4 beautiful children and moved into their forever home in South Bound Brook, New Jersey.  Within that home so many amazing memories were created including the raising of 4 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

In Alex’s spare time, before his wife passed in 2022, their passions together included taking long scenic drives with each other, trips to Niagara Falls where they both met, picnics, enjoying nature, family parties, watching old western movies, and going out to eat. He also really had a love for fishing, his special fishing hat that he wore almost every day, hunting, and spending time with his large family.

Alex leaves behind to cherish his memory, their children, Pauline Giles, and her husband, Jeff, Pat Maxwell and her husband, Michael, Alex Schanschieff and his wife, Eva, and Barbara Kehle; grandchildren, Ashley, Melissa, Tiffany, Austin, and Samantha; great grandchildren, Hailey, Chloe, David, Reese, and Carter.

Alex had the following siblings:  Hannah Spingola (Deceased), Barbara Garrison (Deceased) and Elaine MacDonald (Deceased).

Alex is being cremated and the family will be having a private service.
