 Vincent Joseph Baldanza

 BRIDGEWATER- Vincent Joseph Baldanza, 91 of Bridgewater died peacefully at home in his sleep on November 15, 2018.  He was born May 6, 1927 in Long Branch to Joseph V and Mary Cortina Baldanza.

 

He graduated from Long Branch High School and was immediately drafted into the Navy.  He served in the Great Lakes and the Pacific Ocean until he was honorable discharged as a Storekeeper 3rd Class. He was a recipient of World War II and Victory Medals.

 

 Vince worked at Baldanza Bakery in Long Branch while attending Monmouth Junior College earning an Associates of Arts in Business Administration in 1948.  He attended University of Florida earning a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering in 1954.  He worked as an engineer for RCA in Camden and attended Drexel University earning a Masters in Business Administration in 1957.  He transferred to Somerville as an Assistant Plant Engineer where he met his future wife, Elizabeth.

 In 1959, Vince started working at Picatinny Arsenal as a Munitions Engineer.  He worked in the Small Caliber Lab designing the hand held 40 mm ammunition.  In 1984, he transferred to the Army Material Command at the Pentagon as the Lead Engineer in the research and development to the production of all Army 40 mm and Infantry launched missiles. He earned numerous awards and citations for his work.

 Vince retired in 1989 where he lived in Bridgewater and West Palm Beach. In addition, he owned a family business for many years in Somerville, West Coast Video.  In his spare time he had a passion for gardening, listening to his Big Band music and following his beloved New York Yankees.

 He leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years Elizabeth and his three children Joseph Baldanza of Branchburg, Suzanne Baldanza of Branchburg and Andrew Baldanza of Bangor, Pa.  He is also survived by his sisters Grace Murphy and Jolene Nelson of Long Branch, a brother Sal Baldanza   of Beechwood and many nieces and nephews.

 Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 PM on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Bridgewater Funeral Home, 707 East Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. The Panachida will be held 7:30 PM during the visitation. Funeral services will be held 10 AM on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the funeral home followed by burial at Holy Ghost Carpatho Russian Orthodox Cemetery in Hillsborough. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation or the Steven Siller Tunnel2Towers.
